Division 12 Crews Assessing Roads Damaged by Michael

SHELBY N.C. Department of Transportation crews are working today to clear 18 roads in Division 12 (Alexander, Catawba, Cleveland, Gaston, Iredell and Lincoln counties) impacted by Hurricane Michael.

All of the closures are contained to secondary roads, with most due to trees falling on power lines. NCDOT crews are working with utility companies to coordinate cutting up of fallen trees and shoving them off the road.

A few locations were affected by drainage pipe washouts, including a section of Rufus Ratchford Road in Gaston County. In Iredell County, 12 roads are closed, with three shut down due to pipe failures.

Both Alexander and Cleveland counties each have trees down on one secondary road. Lincoln County has two roads closed due to fallen trees on power lines.

While work continues, some roads may be barricaded. Drivers who come across a road with barricades should not attempt to drive around them or move them. Instead, turn around and seek an alternate route.

Updated road closure information is available at www.DriveNC.gov.
