Repaving Coming for Franklin County Roads

FRANKLINTON – Driving on several sections of Franklin County roads will be smoother because of an N.C. Department of Transportation contract to resurface nearly 31 miles of asphalt.

Starting as early as Nov. 1, contractors from the Fred Smith Company of Raleigh will be repaving 23 sections of secondary roads throughout the county including Pearces Road, Perry Road, and Hicks Road.

To avoid impacts on commuter traffic, crews are not allowed to close or narrow any lanes from 6 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 7 p.m., Monday thru Friday.

All paving work should wrap up by November 15, 2019.

When needed, detour routes will be set up for some of the locations.

It is one of 14 road and bridge projects recently awarded by the N.C. Department of Transportation. The contracts went to the lowest qualified bidder, as required by state law. They are worth $507.7 million, which is $12 million under engineer estimates.
