Comments Sought for Proposed N.C. 16 Widening

CHARLOTTE The public is invited to provide input on a project under development to widen a section of Providence Road (N.C. 16) between Rea Road and Waxhaw Parkway in Union County.

The project was initially submitted for possible funding by the former Mecklenburg-Union Metropolitan Planning Organization, now called the Charlotte Regional Transportation Planning Organization. Increased growth in the Waxhaw area over the last decade has resulted in higher traffic volumes, supporting the need to widen N.C. 16.

More information and a map of the proposed improvements can be found on the NCDOT Public Meeting website.

A public meeting is set for 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 5, at the Weddington United Methodist Church – Helms Hall, 13901 Providence Road. People may attend the meeting at any time, as no formal presentation will be made.

For those who cannot attend the meeting, they may submit comments in writing, phone or email through Nov. 19. All comments received will be reviewed and considered for the final design.

To send comments or learn more, contact NCDOT Division Project Manager Travis Preslar at 704-845-1151. You may also submit comments to 12033 East Independence Boulevard, Suite H, Matthews, N.C., 28105.

NCDOT will provide auxiliary aids and services under the Americans with Disabilities Act for disabled persons who wish to participate in this meeting. Anyone requiring special services should contact Lauren Putnam at 919-707-6072 as early as possible so arrangements can be made.

Persons who speak Spanish and have a limited ability to read, speak or understand English may receive interpretive services upon request prior to the meeting by calling 1-800-481-6494.
