Public Meeting This Month on Improvements at U.S. 70/N.C. 903 Intersections

LA GRANGE –  Lenoir County area residents will get a chance later this month to review details on a preferred alternative for an NCDOT project to improve U.S. 70  between  N.C.  903 and just southeast of the intersection with Jim Sutton Road/Willie Measley Road, south of La Grange. The department is considering converting the existing intersection into an interchange.

The change would upgrade a portion of U.S. 70 as a four-lane, median-divided freeway and improve traffic flow along the highway by eliminating the need to stop at a traffic light at the intersection. It will also improve safety by reducing conflict points and providing a link between freeway sections of U.S. 70 east and west of the project area.

In advance of a Nov. 29 public meeting on the project, added details and a map of the proposal can be found on the NCDOT Public Meetings website.

The meeting will be from 5 to 7 p.m. at  the La Grange Community Center, 410 East Washington Street. Interested residents will get a chance to see enlarged maps of the proposal, ask questions of project staff, and leave comments that will help with the final decision. Since there will not be a formal presentation, residents can stop by at any time during the meeting.

There is also an opportunity for anyone who can’t make the meeting to still ask questions or send the DOT their comments, through Dec. 12 by going to NCDOT’s Public Engagement Platform site for the project. Or they can contact NCDOT Division 2 Project Engineer Robby Taylor at rltaylor@ncdot.gov or 252-439-2806.

NCDOT  will  provide  auxiliary  aids  and  services  under  the  Americans  with  Disabilities  Act  for  disabled persons who wish to participate in this meeting. Anyone requiring special services should contact Ashley Bush at 1-800-233-6315 or ashley.bush@aecom.com as soon as possible so arrangements can be made.

People who have limitations to read, speak or understand English can request interpretation services if they call 1-800-481-6494 before the meeting to request assistance.
