Tree Trimming Starts Next Week on Independence Boulevard

CHARLOTTE N.C. Department of Transportation contract crews will be trimming trees and vegetation along Independence Boulevard, starting Monday, Nov. 5. The work is an effort to remove any trees or portions of trees that could become a hazard during a storm.

Crews will start the operation on the westbound side near the Matthews-Mint Hill Road interchange, progressing west toward Village Lake Drive. A lane closure will be in place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day, so workers can safely cut back the foliage.

When work shifts to U.S. 74 East, lane closures will be scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. to avoid heavier rush hour traffic. Message boards will be used to alert motorists of the lane closures.

The work will take most of the month to complete, weather permitting.
