KANNAPOLIS — Work on the Interstate 85 widening project in Rowan and Cabarrus County will require two overnight closures of the northbound side of the interstate later this week. Crews will be setting girders for the new Old Beatty Ford Road bridge over the interstate so the highway will be closed for safety reasons.
The closure will be at exit 63 (Lane Street), and in place from midnight Thursday until 6 a.m. on Friday and again during those same hours Friday night into Saturday morning.
Traffic will be detoured off the interstate at exit 63, then directed to turn left onto Lane Street and go 2.5 miles, then turn right on U.S. 29 and go six miles to get back to I-85 North.
Drivers are urged to pay extra attention when approaching the closure and along the detour route. They should anticipate possibly needing extra time to travel through the area because of the detour.
