Closure of Section of NC 411 in Garland Postponed Until December

GARLAND – The planned closure next week of a section of N.C. 411 in the Sampson County community of Garland has been postponed until December. The closure between 300 feet north of Elwell Road and the intersection with Gibbs Road is needed to allow crews to replace three failing pipes under the road ahead of planned resurfacing of the roadway.

The delay in the project is because additional utility line work needs to be completed before the pipes can be replaced. The new closure dates are from 8 a.m. on Monday Dec. 3, until 5 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 7.

Two of the pipes are at one location and the third is at another. Just one location will be closed at a time to allow residents along the road to have access to their homes.

The replacement locations will be patched with base asphalt in advance of the resurfacing of the highway, which is expected to be in Spring 2019.

The installation of the new pipes will help ensure better drainage in the area, and will reduce the need for future maintenance work after the road is resurfaced.

Traffic will be detoured onto Norris Road and U.S. 701 (Garland Highway) to get around the closures. Drivers are urged to pay extra attention when approaching the work zone and on the detour route. They should also anticipate possible delays because of the detour.
