Upcoming U.S. 70 On-ramp Closure in Durham

DURHAM – Work that is part of the East End Connector project will require a short series of nightly closures of the Cheek Road on-ramp to U.S. 70 over the next two weeks

Starting Tuesday, Nov. 6, the ramp will be closed from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. each day while contractors do asphalt work on eastbound U.S. 70.

To detour around the worksite, motorists may use Muldee Street, Hoover Road, and N.C. 98.

The work and closure schedule are subject to change should poor weather interfere.

The East End Connector is a 3.9-mile divided highway that will connect the Durham Freeway to U.S. 70, which is being upgraded to interstate standards between Pleasant Drive and N.C. 98. It will enable drivers to travel non-stop between Interstate 85 in Durham, the freeway, I-40 and U.S. 1 in Cary.

The new highway, expected to be designated Interstate 885, is projected to open in late 2019.
