Upcoming Weekend Closure for the Alston Avenue Widening Project

DURHAM – Work on the Alston Avenue (N.C. 55) widening project will require a closure for a short section of the road this weekend.

From 7 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, until 5 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 11, Alston Avenue will be closed between Pettigrew Street and Angier Avenue. Contractors will be working on the railroad bridge crossings just north of Pettigrew Street.

Motorists can detour around the worksite using Main Street, Fayetteville Street, and the Durham Freeway.

This upcoming work is dependent on weather and updates will be provided should the planned closure be affected.

The reworked crossings are part of the overall project that also widens Alston Avenue for more than a mile. The improvements are intended to reduce congestion and improve safety along the road. Work is scheduled to wrap up in 2020.
