STALLINGS – Rainy weather has pushed back the paving schedule on the Monroe Expressway project.
This weekend and next week, contract crews will continue paving and striping work between Interstate 485 and Indian Trail–Fairview Road. The Monroe Expressway is scheduled to open Nov. 27.
Crews will close one lane on U.S. 74 in both directions starting at 7 p.m. Friday. The closures will be in place until 6 a.m. Nov. 21. One lane will remain open to traffic in each direction. The lanes may open sooner, depending on progress.
Paving operations will also require closing the ramp from the I-485 outer loop to U.S. 74 East (exit 51B) from 11 p.m. Friday until 6 a.m. Saturday. Motorists can continue to U.S. 74 West (exit 51A), continuing to Matthews-Mint Hill Road to the U-turn and continue east on U.S. 74.
