NCDOT Seeks Feedback on Revised Plan to Widen Finch Farm Road

TRINTY – The public is invited to review revised designs for improving Finch Farm Road in Randolph County during an open house next week.

The N.C. Department of Transportation is proposing to widen the two-lane road by adding a middle turn lane to ease congestion and improve safety when drivers are making left turns. Additionally, a roundabout would replace the traffic signal at the corner of Finch Farm and Welborn roads, next to the BP convenience store. Roundabouts improve safety because a driver must slow down going through them, and they eliminate the need to wait during a red light.

Other intersection improvements along the 2.3-mile section, roughly between Interstate 85 and Kennedy Road, are also proposed. Additional information about the proposal will be posted on this NCDOT website as it becomes available.

The department first proposed widening Finch Farm Road into four lanes with a raised median. After holding an open house in March and reviewing public comments about the concept, engineers re-evaluated design options in response to the community’s feedback. The new proposal to widen the road to three lanes would minimize any right-of-way impacts to existing homes.

To review the latest roadway designs and comment on them, people may come to an open house from 4 to 7 p.m. Nov. 29 at the Wheatmore High School Cafeteria, 3678 Finch Farm Road. No formal presentation will be given, so people may drop in at any time.

The public also may send comments or questions about the proposal to Rhonda Early, an NCDOT project consultant, at 919-424-0426 or by rearly@hntb.com. Comments will be accepted through Dec. 19.
