Robeson County Open House Set for U.S. 74 Improvements

ORRUM – The N.C. Department of Transportation is seeking public comment on its proposal to convert two intersections along U.S. 74 in Robeson County into one interchange with an overpass and ramps.

To improve safety and traffic flow on U.S. 74, the project would involve replacing intersections at N.C. 72 and N.C. 130 with one interchange in Orrum.

The project will be the subject of a public open house from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Orrum Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. The church is at the corner of South Creek and Atkinson roads in Orrum, south of Lumberton. The meeting will be informal and people may drop in at any time to look at the preliminary design maps, ask questions and turn in comment cards about the proposal. People also have until Jan. 4 to send comments on the project to NCDOT.

The project would allow NCDOT to continue upgrading U.S. 74 into future interstate standards by removing two at-grade intersections that are less than a half-mile apart.  Now, motorists on N.C. 72 and N.C. 130 must stop before entering U.S. 74.

Project information will be posted at this NCDOT website when it becomes available.

For more information or to send comments, contact Alex Henderson, an NCDOT Division 6 project manager, at P.O. Box 1150, Fayetteville, N.C. 28302, or 910-364-0603 or bahenderson@ncdot.gov.
