I-40 West Closure Needed for Work Between Harper Road and N.C. 801 Exits

WINSTON-SALEM – Work on the Interstate 40 project at the Davie-Forsyth County line will require the overnight closure of a section of the westbound lanes on Sunday and Monday nights.

The lanes are being shut down so crews can safely work between Harper Road and the N.C. 801 interchanges. They will be doing asphalt work and setting concrete girders on the new bridge being built. The work is weather conditional.

The closures will go into effect at 11 p.m., with the highway open by 6 a.m. the next morning. Because the closures are overnight, we do not expect them to impact Tanglewood Festival of Lights traffic, but traffic flow will be monitored and if needed, the closure schedule can be adjusted.

The signed detour route will have westbound traffic exiting at Harper Road, then going to U.S. 158 and N.C. 801 to return to I-40.

Drivers are urged to watch for construction and detour signs and be careful as they approach the closure.
