Rolling Road Blocks on Stretch of I-85 this Week

CHARLOTTE – N.C. Department of Transportation contract crews will assemble a rolling road block to stripe travel lanes along a five-mile portion of I-85 between N.C. 16 (Brookshire Boulevard) and Sugar Creek Road this week, weather permitting.

The work will be performed during the day because temperatures will be too cold at night to refresh the faded striping that needs improvement. Depending on weather conditions, the process could take up to six working days.

The moving operation will start at 9 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, continuing until 2 p.m. on I-85 South. Once striping is completed on the southbound side, work will shift to I-85 North.

Law enforcement will be present to help with traffic control, and overhead message signs will be used to alert motorists to the rolling road blocks.

Motorists are encouraged to pay attention when approaching the work zone, obey the posted speed limit, follow posted detours, and allow extra time to reach their destinations safely.
