NCDOT Crews West of Charlotte Preparing for Weekend Storm

SHELBY– N.C. Department of Transportation maintenance and contract crews are preparing to treat the region’s roads as a winter storm toting a mixed bag of precipitation approaches the area.

Starting at lunchtime today, more than 200 employees in Division 12 (Alexander, Catawba, Cleveland, Gaston, Iredell and Lincoln counties) will start pre-treating roads with brine, a water-salt solution that helps prevent snow and ice from bonding to the road surface.

The application process will continue into Friday, so motorists should remain alert for brine trucks and give them plenty of room.

Additional safety tips for motorists  and details on how NCDOT prepares for winter storms is available on NCDOT's website.
