Business 40 Lane Closures Begin Tonight

WINSTON-SALEM – Construction is moving along quickly on the new Fourth Street bridge.

The portion of Business 40 between Cloverdale Avenue and Peters Creek Parkway will be closed on Thursday and Friday nights to accommodate the arrival and installation of large support beams.

Beginning at 7 p.m., on Thursday, Dec. 13, the inside lane of Business 40 in both directions will close to provide parking space for the beams as they arrive. At 9 p.m., both lanes will be closed. A large crane will be moved onto the roadway and will begin placing the beams.

The first half of the beams will be placed on Thursday night between 9 p.m. – 6 a.m. on Friday. The second half will be placed on Friday, beginning at 9 p.m. Crews are expected to be finished with the beam placement by Saturday at 4 p.m.

On Saturday, crews will also be doing some work above Business 40.

Forecasted rain is not expected to affect the work. However, if there are thunderstorms, work will stop until the threat of lightning has passed. If thunderstorms continue for an extended period of time, the road closure may last longer than Saturday, at 4 p.m.
