I-77 North Closed Due to Crash

CHARLOTTE – State transportation officials have closed northbound lanes of I-77 past exit 25 in Huntersville after a vehicle struck an overhead sign post.

Officials with the N.C. Department of Transportation have determined the structure needs to be removed due to safety concerns before opening the lanes to traffic. Officials estimate the closure will be in place for the next few hours.

Motorists heading north on I-77 are being detoured via exit 25 (Sam Furr Road) to U.S. 21 North in Cornelius, turning left on Catawba Avenue to return to I-77 North. Heavy congestion is expected and drivers are urged to avoid this area, if possible, for the next several hours.

All lanes of I-77 South are open.
