Bridge Replacement Coming to Drye Road in Cabarrus County

Charlotte - A section of Drye Road in Mount Pleasant will soon have a new bridge over Little Buffalo Creek, thanks to a $569,000 contract awarded by the N.C. Department of Transportation.

The bridge was built in 1962 and is considered structurally deficient. While safe for motorists, structurally deficient bridges may require significant maintenance to remain in service, or may require limits on vehicle weights. In these cases, extensive rehabilitation or replacement is usually necessary.

Contractor Smith-Rowe, LLC of Mount Airy will close Drye Road on Monday, April 23, to replace the existing bridge. A detour will be posted for motorists along Little Buffalo Road, N.C. 49 and St. Stephens Church Road.

The road is scheduled to open to traffic by August 2, with vegetation and landscaping work continuing through January 2019.
