CHARLOTTE – The N.C. Department of
Transportation has awarded a $12.8 million contract to improve approximately
five miles of I-77 from north of Tyvola Road (exit 5) to Morehead Street (exit
10).
The contract calls for milling and paving, concrete pavement
repairs, and installing pavement markings and snowplowable markers.
The project also includes improvements to the northbound and
southbound bridges at West Boulevard, and the bridge exiting I-77 South to West
Boulevard. Crews will paint the bridges, replace bridge joints, perform repairs
to the concrete deck, and add a new deck overlay to smooth the ride for
motorists.
Work can start as early as June 25, and is scheduled for completion
in September 2019.
This was one of 18 road, rail and bridge contracts recently awarded
by the N.C. Department of Transportation. Per state law they went to the lowest
qualified bidder for each project. The contracts are worth $144.4 million.
