JOHNSTON COUNTY – Work to make a 16-mile
stretch of N.C. 50 smoother will begin this week and require occasional lane
closures.
An N.C. Department of Transportation contracting crew will need to
close one lane at a time on the two-lane highway to mill away the old asphalt
and then repave it. Depending on the contractor’s schedule, the lane closures
could begin Wednesday, June 6.
The work along the highway between the Wake County line and Benson
will take about a month to complete. To reduce traffic delays on the busiest
portion of the highway, there will be no lane closures during the morning
commute between Wake County and Graham Pond Road in the McGee Crossroads
community.
Motorists should slow down and exercise caution traveling through
the work zone.
The crew is doing the work as part of a larger resurfacing contract
for several roads in Johnston County.
