RALEIGH – A North Carolina High School
Student is among the top finishers in the National Aviation Art Contest, and
will now move on to the international level of the competition.
Emma Kerns of Sherrill’s Ford, a student at Liberty Preparatory
Christian Academy in Mooresville, came in second place nationally in the senior
age category.
After also placing second in the N.C. Department of
Transportation’s State Art Contest, Emma’s artwork was sent on to the National Art Competition hosted
by the National Association of State Aviation Officials in Washington, DC.
Her art will now be sent to Switzerland to compete in the
Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI)’s International Art
Competition.
This year’s theme was “Flight in to the Future.” NCDOT received a
record 1,246 entries this year representing 144 hometowns and 130 schools. A
total of 3,440 students have participated in the NC Aviation Art Contest over
