Kings Mountain Bridge Over I-85 to Be Improved

KINGS MOUNTAIN – A project to improve the bridge on Canterbury Road over Interstate 85 in Kings Mountain will start this spring, thanks to a $403,000 contract awarded by the N.C. Department of Transportation.

Improvements to the bridge include repairing the bridge deck, cleaning and painting, and applying a high-quality concrete overlay to improve the ride over the bridge and extend its lifespan.

The contractor, Lanford Brothers Co. Inc. of Roanoke, Va. can start work in mid-April, and must complete the project by Aug. 1. Lane closures on I-85 will be restricted to overnight hours between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. When the bridge is closed to traffic overnight, a detour will be in place along Canterbury Road, King Street, N.C. 161 and Woodlake Parkway.

This is one of 10 highway, bridge and ferry projects recently awarded by the N.C. Department of Transportation. As required by state law, the contracts went to the lowest qualified bidder. They are worth $69.5 million.
