SYLVA — Traffic is back where it belongs on Interstate 40 near the Tennessee line.
A contractor for the N.C. Department of Transportation completed a project to repair eastbound and westbound bridges on I-40 over the Harmon Den Exit at mile marker seven on Friday morning.
The contractor, Lanford Brothers of Virginia, removed decaying concrete and installed a new surface that will extend the life of the bridges for at least another five years for a cost of $795,000. Crews completed the six-week project one week ahead of schedule.
NCDOT engineers are exploring ideas to replace the bridges within the next five years.
