Bridge Replacement Prompts Road Closure in Stokes County

DANBURY – A bridge replacement project that begins next week will close a portion of a Stokes County Road for several months.

N.C. Department of Transportation contractors will close a section of Tom Shelton Road at 8 a.m. on Monday to begin replacing the bridge over Mill Creek. The bridge was built in 1969 and has reached the end of its useful life cycle.

The new bridge is expected to be open by July 9.

A signed detour will follow Steele, Moir Farm, Sheppard Mill and Delta Church roads. Local traffic will still be able to access Tom Shelton Road up to the points of closure on both sides of the bridge construction site.

Drivers are urged to slow down near the work site and be prepared for possible traffic delays in the area of the detour.
