KINSTON – The N.C. Department of Transportation continues construction on a major Lenoir County project that will extend a road, improving connectivity north of Kinston.
Starting at 8 a.m. on April 8, NCDOT will permanently close Hamilton Road in both directions as crews construct the four-lane freeway. This is the area where the parkway extension will cross the road. There will be turnarounds built at both sides of this closure.
A second closure will be on Wallace Family Road. This will begin at 8 a.m. April 15 and last through 5 p.m. April 19. That closure is needed so crews can safely place concrete bridge girders for a new overpass. During this week, drivers will be detoured onto Tilghman Mill Road, N.C. 58, Hugo Road and Elmore Farms Road.
The C.F. Harvey Parkway extension will be a four-lane, median-divided freeway with full-control access, which will connect drivers to N.C. 58 and N.C. 11. It is expected to be substantially complete in 2021, with final completion in 2022.
