Watch for Upcoming Lane Closures on Business 40 in Winston-Salem

WINSTON-SALEM – Preparation work for road paving operations will require several lane closures on Business 40 on the east side of Winston-Salem through next week.

The work will take place between Hastings Hill Road and South Main Street, where a section of the future beltway around the city is expected to open later this year.

Drivers who want to avoid this span of Business 40 while closures are in place are encouraged to use N.C. 66, Interstate 40 and U.S. 52 as alternative routes.

The first closure will be a lane on the eastbound side from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday, April 18.

Remaining closures are scheduled as follows:

  • An eastbound lane, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, April 24. This will allow the contractor to remove portable concrete barrier wall.
  • An eastbound lane, from 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 24 until 5 a.m. the following morning, for pavement marking.
  • An eastbound lane, from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 25, to repair concrete slab.
  • A westbound lane, from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 30, for additional concrete slab repair.

Much of this work is weather dependent and would be rescheduled because of rainy conditions.

Drivers who travel through the work zone during the closures should slow down and be on the lookout for signage marking one-lane traffic patterns.
