CHINA GROVE – A section of southbound Interstate 85 will close overnight tonight while an overhead sign is installed.
The contractor plans to install the sign between midnight and 6 a.m. Friday, April 26, so the highway needs to be closed for the safety of motorists and work crews.
During that time, traffic will be detoured starting at Exit 70, Webb Road, north of China Grove. Drivers will turn right onto Webb Road, left onto U.S. 29 South and then left onto Lane Street to return to I-85 South.
Drivers should slow down near the work zone and plan for extra travel time because of the detour.
This work is part of the project to widen an 8-mile stretch of I-85 in Cabarrus and Rowan Counties.
