Fayetteville Bridge Work Requires MLK Lane Closures

FAYETTEVILLE – Bridge work on the Martin Luther King Jr. Freeway near downtown Fayetteville will require southbound lane closures, starting at noon Tuesday, April 30.

Maintenance crews for the N.C. Department of Transportation will repair the bridge joints to the overpass spanning the railroad tracks just south of Robeson Street. The repairs will extend the lifespan of the bridge and make for a smoother ride.

For the safety of the workers and drivers, the department is closing a travel lane and an acceleration lane, leaving one lane open to traffic. The closure will remain for about two weeks, with work being done during the daytime.

The northbound lanes of the freeway will not be affected.

Transportation officials remind motorists to slow down in the work zone, watch signs for construction information and obey the posted speed limit.
