NCDOT Holds Public Meeting; Seeks Input on I-40 Widening and Interchange Project

RALEIGH – Plans to improve a section of Interstate 40 and redesign the interchange with I-440 and U.S. 1/64 near Cary will be showcased at a public meeting this week.

The N.C. Department of Transportation intends to widen I-40 by one lane in each direction between the I-440 and U.S. 1/64 interchange and Lake Wheeler Road and to reconstruct the interchange. The purpose of the project is to improve traffic flow and safety throughout the corridor. The interchange portion of the project will also better handle the traffic pattern created by the widening of I-440 on the western side of Raleigh, a project expected to begin later this year.

Citizens can review preliminary project maps and ask questions and provide feedback at the meeting, set for Thursday, May 9, from 4-7 p.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn, 121 Columbus Ave. in Cary. Feedback will be considered as the project develops. Project maps can also be found on the NCDOT public meeting webpage.

There will not be a formal presentation during the open house-style meeting. People can stop by at any time during the meeting hours.

Comments can also be made by phone or email through May 23. To submit comments or request additional information, contact NCDOT Project Manager Allison White at 919-707-6341 or akwhite@ncdot.gov.
