Lane and Ramp Closures This Weekend for Capital Boulevard and Wade Avenue

RALEIGH — Weekend work on the Capital Boulevard bridges project will require lane and ramp closures from 9 p.m. on Friday through 6 a.m. on Monday.

The contractor will be removing and replacing pavement on northbound Capital Boulevard from the Speedway gas station to the Wade Avenue exit. This will require the closure of the two outside lanes. The inside lane will remain open, but travelers can expect possible backups because of the single-lane traffic pattern.

The work will also shut down the ramp from northbound Capital Boulevard to westbound Wade Avenue. A detour will have drivers go west on Peace Street, then right onto Glenwood Avenue, cross over Wade Avenue and make an immediate left turn onto the ramp going from southbound Glenwood Avenue to westbound Wade Avenue.

The same type of work is planned for the weekend of June 28-30, as the contractor works its way down the northbound side of Capital Boulevard toward downtown, improving the road surface. Once again, the outside lane will be closed, but the inside lane will remain open through the weekend. And access to westbound Wade Avenue will remain open, with no ramp closures.

The work both weekends is weather conditional as paving and striping can’t be done in the rain.

Drivers need to pay extra attention to the lane and ramp closures and the related detour signs and to anticipate needing a little extra time while on the detour route.

Similar type weekend closures are likely for much of the summer, with a goal of completing the project this fall.
