WINSTON-SALEM – A pair of ramps will close nightly this weekend at the junction of Interstate 40, Business 40 and U.S. 421 on the west side of Winston-Salem.
The ramp from southbound U.S. 421 onto I-40 East and the loop that connects U.S. 421 North/Business 40 West with I-40 East are scheduled to close at 9 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday and reopen at 6 a.m. the following mornings.
The closures are needed for N.C. Department of Transportation contract crews to conduct milling and resurfacing in this area. The work is weather dependent.
Detour routes are as follows:
- From U.S. 421 South: Take exit 239 (Jonestown Road) and continue straight onto Hanes Mall Boulevard, turn left onto Stratford Road and left onto I-40 East.
- From U.S. 421 North: Continue on U.S. 421 North to exit 239 (Jonestown Road). Turn left onto Jonestown Road, cross the bridge and turn left again onto Hanes Mall Boulevard, turn left onto Stratford Road and left again to onto I-40 East.
Drivers should be cautious near the work zone and allow for extra travel time because of the detours.
