Ramp Closures Next Week at Forsyth County Interchange

WINSTON-SALEM – More overnight ramp closures are planned for early next week while resurfacing work continues at the junction of Interstate 40 and U.S. 421 in west Winston-Salem.

N.C. Department of Transportation contract crews plan to close the ramp from I-40 West onto U.S. 421 South/Business 40 East and the exit ramp from Stratford Road onto I-40 West. The ramps will close at 9 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday and will reopen by 6 the following mornings.

Traffic will use the following detours during the ramp closures:

  • From westbound I-40: Take Exit 189 (Stratford Road/U.S. 158), turn left onto Stratford Road, turn left onto Silas Creek Parkway and then right onto U.S. 421 South/Business 40 East.
  • From Stratford Road: Head northeast on Stratford Road and turn left onto Silas Creek Parkway, exit right to loop onto U.S. 421 North/Business 40 West, then exit left onto I-40 West.

Drivers should pay attention when approaching the work zone and allow extra time to reach their destinations safely.

This work is part of a $17.5 million project to rehabilitate pavement along six miles of I-40 between Winston-Salem and Clemmons.
