Brunswick County Intersection Topic of NCDOT Public Meeting

ASH – The N.C. Department of Transportation will host a public meeting next week concerning a Brunswick County intersection.

The proposed project is to convert the U.S. 17 at Hickman Road NW intersection into a reduced conflict intersection (RCI). It is designed to reduce potential collisions for vehicles and pedestrians by allowing drivers from a side road to only turn right. To go the other direction, or cross the highway, drivers would pull into a dedicated lane to make a U-turn and then go straight or turn right at the intersection. This conversion to an RCI will improve safety and traffic operations.

Maps of the proposal can be found at the NCDOT Public Meeting website.

The public meeting will be held July 15 from 5 – 7 p.m. at the Jessie Mae Monroe Elementary School Gym at 250 Pea Landing Road NW in Ash. Interested residents can drop in any time during the meeting to learn more about the proposal, have questions answered and talk with NCDOT representatives. There will not be a formal presentation.

Written comments can also be submitted by phone, email or mail and will be accepted through July 30.
