Charlotte Loop will Have Ramp, Lane Closures This Week

CHARLOTTE – N.C. Department of Transportation contract crews have scheduled several closures as part of a $16.3 million project to improve the roadway and 22 bridges along I-277.

Starting tonight, lane closures will be installed along the outer loop between South Boulevard and U.S. 74 for bridge work from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. These closures will be installed each night through Sunday morning, Aug. 11.

In addition, the exit ramps from the outer loop to Carson Boulevard and Kenilworth Avenue will be closed each night this week from 9 p.m. until 6 a.m. The ramps will also close this weekend from 9 p.m. Friday until 6 a.m. Monday, Aug. 12.

Later this week, crews will close the exit ramp from U.S. 74 West to the outer loop for maintenance work. The ramp will be closed Wednesday and Thursday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following day.

All the work depends on dry weather and will be rescheduled if rain impedes the contractor’s progress.

Detour information will be online at DriveNC.gov under Mecklenburg County.

Drivers need to slow down and use extra caution while going through the work zones and the detour routes. They also need to pay extra attention to the road and any construction crews in the area.
