Railroad Bridge Work to Close Part of Guilford County Road

GIBSONVILLE – A railroad bridge maintenance project requires closing part of a road in eastern Guilford County for about three weeks.

Whitsett Avenue, which is also N.C. 61/100, will close near the railroad track in downtown Gibsonville starting at 8 a.m. Monday, Aug. 12. The stretch is expected to reopen by Sept. 1, weather permitting.

The closure will enable a contractor to clean, sandblast and paint the railroad bridge.

A signed detour will direct people to follow West Main Street, Piedmont Avenue, Burke Street, Springwood Avenue and Minneola Street.

Drivers should be cautious near the work zone and anticipate trips through town taking a bit longer because of the detour.
