I-277 Improvements Continue This Week with Ramp, Lane Closures


CHARLOTTE – N.C. Department of Transportation contract crews have scheduled several closures this week as part of a $16.3 million project to improve the roadway and 22 bridges along I-277.

Starting tonight, the on-ramp from U.S. 74 West to the inner loop will be closed on a nightly basis, beginning at 10 p.m. and opening at 5 a.m. The same closure will be in place each night through Monday morning, Oct. 7. ​​

Also starting tonight, the exit ramp from the inner loop at East 4th Street (Exit 2A) will be closed from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. each night through Monday morning.​​

Tonight, the ramp from I-77 North to the inner loop (Exit 9C) will be closed from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Tuesday.​​

Tonight and Tuesday night, the East Morehead Street entrance ramp to the outer loop will be closed from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. ​

On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evening, the exit ramp from the outer loop to South Boulevard will be closed from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.​​​

On Wednesday and Thursday nights, the South Boulevard entrance ramp to the outer loop will be closed from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. The ramp will close again from 9 p.m. Friday until 6 p.m. Saturday.​​​

This weekend, the on-ramp from East Stonewall Street to the inner loop will be closed Friday, Saturday and Sunday night from 9 p.m. until 6 a.m.​​

Lastly, on Sunday the exit ramp from the outer loop to College Street will be closed from 9 p.m. until 6 a.m. Monday.​​

All the work is weather permitting and subject to change. Detour information will be online at DriveNC.gov under Mecklenburg County.​

Drivers need to slow down and use extra caution while going through the work zones and the detour routes. They also need to pay extra attention to the road for their own safety, as well as any passengers, occupants of other vehicles and the construction crews in the area.​​​​
