RALEIGH – N.C. Department of Transportation contractors plan to close the ramps from Interstate 40 to N.C. 54/Chapel Hill Road Monday and Tuesday nights.
The ramp from westbound I-40 (exit 290) is scheduled to close Monday, Oct. 7 at 9 p.m. and reopen Tuesday, Oct. 8 by 6 a.m.
During the closure, a detour will take drivers onto Wade Avenue and the Edwards Mill Road exit, then back onto Wade Avenue to take I-40 East to take exit 290.
The ramp from eastbound I-40 is set to close at 9 p.m. Tuesday and reopen at 6 a.m. the following morning.
Drivers will be detoured to the next exit (Cary Towne Boulevard) to turn around, head west on I-40 and then take exit 290.
These closures, which are part of a project to widen the ramps at exit 290 and rehabilitate the bridge over I-40, are necessary to tie in the pavement from the widened ramps to N.C. 54/Chapel Hill Road. The work is weather dependent.
The ramps from Chapel Hill Road onto I-40 will remain open during the above times.
