SUNSET BEACH – The N.C. Department of Transportation and S.C. Department of Transportation will host two public meetings next week concerning the proposal to extend Carolina Bays Parkway.
The departments plan to extend Carolina Bays Parkway (S.C. 31) from S.C. 9 in Horry County, S.C., across the North Carolina state line to U.S. 17 in Brunswick County. The project calls for a multi-lane freeway with parts on existing roadways and other parts on new locations.
This project would enhance mobility and connectivity for traffic moving in and through the project area. Many intersections and roadway segments are expected to either approach or exceed the roadway capacity limits by 2040.
Nine corridor concepts have been developed. Maps of these concepts can be found at the NCDOT Public Meetings website.
The first public meeting will be held Dec. 3 from 4-7 p.m. at Sea Trail Convention Center, 75A Clubhouse Road in Sunset Beach, N.C.
A second public meeting will be held Dec. 4 from 4-7 p.m. at VFW Post 10804, 111 State Highway 57 North, Little River, S.C.
Interested residents can drop in any time during either meeting to learn more about the proposal, have questions answered and talk with NCDOT representatives. The same project information will be available at both meetings. There will not be a formal presentation.
