RALEIGH – The following are highlights from this week at the N.C. Department of Transportation. The stories below are also featured in NCDOT Now, the department's weekly newscast.

Ferry System to Increase Service on Hatteras Route

NCDOT’s Ferry Division will increase service on its Hatteras-Ocracoke route on June 16 in order to help meet higher summer travel demand.

The schedule change will increase the number of daily departures from 36 to 52. To get the full schedule, go to ncferry.org.

Division of Aviation Photographs Seagrass for Research

A multi-flight project photographing the seagrass meadows below the surface of the water along the Outer Banks was completed this week by NCDOT’s Division of Aviation.

Funded by the Albemarle-Pamlico National Estuary Partnership, the team took photos from Kitty Hawk to Jacksonville to allow scientists to compare past and eventually future pictures to determine the health of the seagrass and how it is changing over time.
