One Lane of I-40 Closing for Repair

CLYDE — One lane of westbound Interstate 40 near the Buncombe County line will be closed for a portion of Monday for repairs.

The right lane of I-40 West will be closed prior to mile marker 30 starting at 8 a.m. so crews can repair a large pothole on the bridge over Incinerator Road in Haywood County.

NCDOT crews will remove deteriorated concrete and pour new material before letting it dry. Engineers estimate the interstate lane should reopen by 5 p.m.

Drivers may take Exit 31, then Champion Drive, and drive south to access U.S. 23 west through Clyde to avoid congestion and head west on U.S. 74 to Waynesville. Drivers can also take U.S. 23 west, then U.S. 74 east to rejoin I-40 toward Tennessee.
