Liberty Street Segment to Close for 120 Days

DURHAM — Beginning Friday, Feb. 14, the N.C. Department of Transportation plans to close Liberty Street between North Elm Street to North Hyde Park Avenue for up to 120 days as part of the project to widen Alston Avenue in Durham.

Eastbound drivers will be detoured to take a left onto North Elizabeth Street, a right onto Holloway Street, and right onto North Hyde Park Avenue to get back to Liberty Street.

This closure will allow for the reconstruction of Liberty Street, which includes grading, utilities, drainage, curb, sidewalks and signals. The contractor will provide on-site access to affected properties.

A detour will also direct Alston Avenue through traffic to Main Street, Elizabeth Street and Holloway Street to get around the closure. Local traffic will be able to access Alston Avenue between Main Street and Hopkins Street.

Drivers should allow extra time to navigate the detours and pay extra attention while driving near the work zone.
