CHAPEL HILL — N.C. Department of Transportation contractors plan to close a segment of Old Durham Road on Monday, Sept. 14 for utility work.
About 250 feet of the road will be closed between Scarlet Drive and the entrance to Hardee's from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. to allow crews to tie in a new 12-inch water line.
The detour will use U.S. 15-501, Eastowne Drive and East Lakeview Drive to get around the closure.
Drivers should allow extra time for the detour and pay extra attention while driving near the work zone.
This work is part of a project to add bicycle lanes, crosswalks and sidewalks to Old Durham/Old Chapel Hill Road between U.S. 15-501 and Pope Road. Work is scheduled to be completed by November 2021.
