U.S. 64 Guardrail Repairs Require Daytime Closures

HIGHLANDS – Significant repairs to guardrail on a section of U.S. 64 from Franklin to Highlands require closing the highway during daytime hours for three straight days starting Sept. 29.

N.C. Department of Transportation officials will close U.S. 64 from Buck Creek Road to the entrance of Brush Creek Drive from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesday through Thursday.

An marked detour will direct traffic to Buck Creek Road for about 11 miles instead of remaining on U.S. 64 for about 10 miles. Local residents and visitors should include this detour into travel plans.

NCDOT and contract crews will use the closures to repair and replace sections of guardrail to increase safety along this winding mountain section of highway.

Transportation officials urge drivers to proceed with caution, obey posted signs, and avoid distracted driving.
