This Week at NCDOT: CRAFTS Tool, Trails Plan, Tree of Life, First Snowfall

RALEIGH – The following are highlights from this week at the N.C. Department of Transportation. The stories below are also featured in NCDOT Now, the department's weekly newscast.

NC FIRST Commission Launches CRAFTS Tool

The NC FIRST Commission is seeking public involvement as it works to finalize future revenue and investment recommendations to the Board of Transportation.

The Commission recently launched a web tool called CRAFTS that lets people explore revenue and finance solutions to modernize the state’s transportation network.  The commission wants the public to check out the web tool and then submit their suggestions online. Share your thoughts by Dec. 14.

Great Trails State Plan

The public has another opportunity to let their voices be heard - but only for a few more hours as the department is in the final stages of the Great Trails State Plan.

The initiative will use existing plans and recommendations to identify a network of shared-use paths and trails connecting every county in North Carolina.

We need your review and input of the draft network plan. You have until the end of the day Friday to provide your input.

Tree of Life Ceremony

The Governor’s Highway Safety Program and North Carolina Mothers Against Drunk Driving will host the 23rd annual Tree of Life memorial ceremony this evening. The 6 p.m. ceremony, which honors those who have lost their lives in car crashes on North Carolina roadways, will be online this year due to COVID-19. To watch the live event, you must register at ncdot.gov.

The event precedes the annual Booze it & Lose It campaign, which runs Dec. 14 through Jan. 5.

Western NC Gets First Snowfall of Season

Just as hurricane season ended this week, travelers in western North Carolina experienced a different kind of weather as the region saw its first snowfall of the season.

Visit the department's website to learn more about how NCDOT responds to winter weather and for tips on driving in snowy conditions. And for the latest traffic information, go to driveNC.gov.
