Ramp, Lane Closures Planned Tonight for Aviation Parkway Interchange

MORRISVILLE – N.C. Department of Transportation contract crews will continue final paving work tonight on the project to improve the Interstate 40 interchange at Aviation Parkway.

At 5 p.m., crews will begin paving the left lane of southbound Aviation Parkway at National Guard Drive and will continue south to the bridge over I-40.

At about 7 p.m., the operation will turn around and pave the right northbound lane back up to National Guard Drive. At this time, the ramp from I-40 West to northbound Aviation Parkway (Exit 285B) toward RDU Airport will be closed for about four hours as crews pave the lane across the top of the ramp.

If time allows, crews will turn around again and pave the right southbound lane of Aviation Parkway from National Guard Drive to the bridge over I-40. The ramp to I-40 West and loop from I-40 West would be closed as crews pave the lane across the top of the ramp.

During the closure, message boards will direct drivers to Airport Boulevard to exit and access the airport and areas north of the interchange.

The ramps and all travel lanes should reopen by 6 a.m. tomorrow.

Pending weather, additional ramp and lane closures will occur nightly this week and next as crews pave all lanes of Aviation Parkway from National Guard Drive to just south of Gateway Centre Boulevard at the entrance to Lake Crabtree Park, the ramps at the Aviation Parkway/I-40 interchange and lanes of I-40 between the Aviation Parkway and Airport Boulevard interchanges.
