Ramp Closures at Aviation Parkway Interchange Planned for Sunday Night

MORRISVILLE – N.C. Department of Transportation contract crews will continue final paving work Sunday night on the project to improve the Interstate 40 interchange at Aviation Parkway.

At 7 p.m., crews will close the ramp from Aviation Parkway to I-40 West so crews can place the final surface on the ramp. When complete, the paving operation will then move to the exit loop from I-40 West to southbound Aviation Parkway (Exit 285A).

During these closures, message boards will direct drivers to Airport Boulevard to exit and access the airport and areas north of the interchange.

If time permits, crews will also pave the ramp from I-40 East to Aviation Parkway (Exit 285). During this potential closure, message boards will direct drivers use Airport Boulevard (exit 284) or Harrison Avenue (Exit 287) to access Aviation Parkway from I-40 East.

The ramps and all travel lanes should reopen by 6 a.m. Monday.

Pending weather, additional ramp and lane closures will occur nightly next week as crews pave all lanes of Aviation Parkway from National Guard Drive to just south of Gateway Centre Boulevard at the entrance to Lake Crabtree Park, the ramps at the Aviation Parkway/I-40 interchange and lanes of I-40 West between the Aviation Parkway and Airport Boulevard interchanges.
