Crews to Close U.S. 401 near Youngsville for Pipe Replacements

YOUNGSVILLE— N.C. Department of Transportation contractors plan to close a segment of U.S. 401/Louisburg Road on Friday to replace two crossline pipes.

At 8 p.m., both directions of Louisburg Road will be closed between Tarboro Road and Flat Rock Church Road. Crews will be installing a new 33-inch pipe about 0.8 miles north of Tarboro Road and a new 66-inch pipe just south of Flat Rock Church Road.

Northbound through traffic will be detoured west on Tarboro Road to Moores Pond Road and Flat Rock Church Road to get back to U.S. 401. Southbound drivers will follow the same detour but in reverse.

Local traffic will use Beaver Dam Drive and Bailey Farms Drive to get around the southern closure.

Work is scheduled to be complete by 3 p.m. Saturday.

Drivers should allow extra time for the detour and pay extra attention while driving near the work zone.

This work is part of a project to widen and improve six miles of U.S. 401 between N.C. 96 and Flat Rock Church Road/Clifton Pond Road. This project is near its halfway point and is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2022.
