ARCHER LODGE – Drivers in northern Johnston County should be aware that Buffalo Road north of Archer Lodge Road is scheduled to close in both directions this weekend.
A state Transportation Department contractor will install a storm drainage pipe underneath the pavement, necessitating the closure from 7 p.m. Friday until 6 a.m. Monday.
The marked detour will send drivers along Lake Wendell, Wall and Wendell roads. Residents should allot for extra time when using the detour and be cautious near the closure.
Improvement Project
The project is intended to help alleviate drainage issues within the town of Archer Lodge.
In addition to constructing storm drains, the contractor is widening the travel lanes in each direction from the current 9 feet to 12 feet and adding sidewalks on both sides of Buffalo Road between Archer Lodge Town Hall and Archer Lodge Road. An athletic field generating extra traffic and pedestrians is on either side of the road being improved.
The $1.1 million project began in June and is expected to be completed by year's end.
