Kannapolis Road Set for Makeover Under New Contract

KANNAPOLIS – A prominent local road will be improved thanks to a contract recently awarded by the N.C. Department of Transportation.

Lane Street/Jackson Park Road is set to be redesigned between Main Street and Interstate 85 to make it safer for drivers and pedestrians.

The project will convert the existing four-lane road in this area into a two-lane pattern with a center turn lane and will feature a raised median between Sloop and Ruth avenues and Ruth and Hazel avenues. A new traffic signal will also be installed at Lane Street and Ruth Avenue.

The new design will reduce crashes, make bicycle and pedestrian crossing safer and improve traffic flow.

The $2.1 million project was awarded to NJR Group Inc. of Albemarle.

Road work will begin in the spring. The project is scheduled for completion in fall of 2022.

Drivers should be mindful of crews working along this stretch over the next year and anticipate lane closures until the project is complete.
