DURHAM – Contract crews plan to close lanes of Interstate 40 West at the Durham/Orange county line throughout next week to change the traffic pattern at this location.
Crews will be milling, paving and striping the road and replacing an overhead sign to reflect the new pattern that will no longer feature the left lane drop just west of U.S. 15-501. The lane drop will instead be realized on the right side of the interstate, with the right lane becoming an exit-only lane at U.S. 15-501.
To safely achieve this transition, the contractor has scheduled the following lane closures at the interchange between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m.:
Monday: Double right lane closure
Tuesday and Wednesday: Right lane closure
Thursday: Left lane closure
Drivers on I-40 West should slow down when approaching the U.S. 15-501 interchange at night next week and be mindful of crews working close to the travel lanes in this area.
